Clomid – general product characteristics

The trade name “Clomid” refers to Clomiphene Citrate. It is not an anabolic steroid – this agent is most often prescribed to women suffering from infertility due to its ovulation stimulating properties. By counteracting the negative influence of estrogens on the hypothalamus – pituitary – ovaries axis, it enhances the secretion of LH and FSH, which stimulates the onset of ovulation.

However, this is not the only application of this preparation – it is also used in doping. While it is of little benefit to women in this area, it is quite different for men.

The action of clomiphene citrate is based on blocking the action of estrogens in the body – in terms of its chemical structure, this substance is a synthetic estrogen. By stimulating the release of luteinizing and follicle-stimulating hormones, it stimulates the release of testosterone. Clomid plays a huge role in preventing the phenomenon of an increase in cortisol levels in the body after steroid withdrawal.

Excess cortisol has a very negative effect on the synthesis of proteins that build skeletal muscles, and its excess can be prevented by increasing the secretion of testosterone.LH is responsible for testosterone synthesis in Leydig cells in the testes. FSH, on the other hand, is responsible for the synthesis of proteins in Sertoli cells. This effect is impaired when the testosterone level in the body is too low.

Clomid – acting through feedback – affects the secretion of LH, which restores the proper secretion of endogenous testosterone. Many scientific studies have shown that administering clomife citrate to men with too low testosterone levels brought about effects very similar to the effects of using testosterone-containing preparations.
